Izzy Camina ha sido durante mucho tiempo un caso atípico en la industria: a la vez etérea y un poco inquietante, “Celestial Sodomy” es otro ejemplo de la reinvención constante de Izzy en la electrónica, el pop y cualquier otra cosa que se le antoje. Izzy es una estadounidense nacida en Los Ángeles, quien recientemente colaboró con la marca francesa de moda CELINE componiendo, produciendo e interpretando el soundtrack original para el SS22 show.
Sus influencias van desde el UK garage, electrónica experimental hasta post punk y pop. Ella describe su música como “Cyberpunk Britney Spears”. Su música ha sido aclamada por medios como NME, Guardian, Interview Magazine y ahora una charla para Playlist Magazine.
How did your story with music begin? At what point on your life did you realice that you wanted to dedicate yourself to music full time and proffesionally?
I was studying business and feeling disillusioned, so I decided to learn how to use production software. I began singing and recording and posting demos online – once I realized people on the internet were interested in what I was doing, I decided that perhaps it was worth pursuing.
Izzy: Estaba estudiando administración de empresas y me sentía desilusionada, así que decidí aprender a usar software de producción. Comencé a cantar, grabar y publicar demos en línea; una vez que me di cuenta de que la gente en Internet estaba interesada en lo que estaba haciendo, decidí que tal vez valía la pena seguir adelante.
Please tell our readers about the process behing this new EP ANG3L NUMB3RS? How did you build it and since when? What message you want to communicate to people?
I moved to Brooklyn in 2022 after living in rural California during the pandemic. I was unhappy with city life and the conditions of NYC – the economic inequality, pollution, fakeness, etc. At the same time, I felt energized and excited by the post-pandemic mania and nightlife. The songs on the EP are sonic manifestations of this delirium, dissonance and excitement.
Izzy: Me mudé a Brooklyn en 2022 después de vivir en la zona rural de California durante la pandemia. No estaba contenta con la vida de la ciudad y las condiciones de Nueva York: la desigualdad económica, la contaminación, la falsedad, etc. Al mismo tiempo, me sentía energizada y emocionada por la manía y la vida nocturna posteriores a la pandemia. Las canciones del EP son manifestaciones sonoras de este delirio, disonancia y emoción.
In your new EP you talk about strong topics such as existential doubts that many people have today but maybe they don´t speak so openly. What is the story behing this song and how did this song idea come about?
Most of the music isn’t “thought out” or planned too much. All of the songs are written very quickly. I’ll just sit in front of my microphone and start singing things, kind of like a seance. I’m not really sure what’s happening until I listen back later on. Through this method, I can see what’s going on in my subconscious and learn more about my thoughts and feelings, which I’m usually disassociating from.
I think this extends to a lot of people in my generation and beyond – existential doubts that we’re always trying to look away from, but end up bubbling up in other obvious (or not so obvious) actions and behaviors.
Izzy: La mayor parte de la música no está “pensada” o planeada demasiado. Todas las canciones están escritas muy rápido. Simplemente me siento frente a mi micrófono y empiezo a cantar cosas, como una especie de sesión. No estoy realmente segura de lo que está pasando hasta que lo escucho más tarde.
A través de este método, puedo ver lo que está pasando en mi subconsciente y aprender más sobre mis pensamientos y sentimientos, de los que normalmente me estoy desvinculando.
Creo que esto se extiende a muchas personas de mi generación y más allá: dudas existenciales de las que siempre estamos tratando de apartar la mirada, pero que terminan burbujeando en otras acciones y comportamientos obvios (o no tan obvios).
Tell us about the video of Wind Rushin, where did you recorded it and why did you choose that location? Who directed it?
This song happened in the span of a few hours before a hike in central California. I played it to my boyfriend in the car and he didn’t really care for it.. which is funny. I felt compelled to release it with this EP, which feels good.
I directed the video with the help of my lovely roommate Sasha, who directed the ANG3L NUMB3RS video upcoming.
Izzy: Esta canción sucedió en el lapso de unas pocas horas antes de una caminata en el centro de California. Se la puse a mi novio en el auto y a él realmente no le gustó… lo cual es divertido. Me sentí obligada a lanzarlo con este EP, que se siente bien.

What did you learn during the process of making this new EP?
Don’t overthink. I’m a very slow mover, very stubborn, very sensitive. Just close your eyes and release the music… Which is not easy for me.
Izzy: No pensar demasiado. Soy muy lenta, muy terca, muy sensible. Solo cerrar los ojos y soltar la música… Lo cual no es fácil para mí.
What´s next for Izzy Camina? New music? Any new tour? Would you like to come to Mexico soon?
Izzy: Estoy trabajando en música nueva en este momento, planeo hacer una mini gira en Estados Unidos en el otoño con Blue Hawaii, pero me encantaría ir a México. ¡Espero que pronto!
